It’s October and that means festivals here in Louisiana. Whether its to celebrate food or music, the weekends are dedicated to being outside and enjoying the cooler temps.

I was excited to search with the kids to find out which ones we were going to attend. The Gumbo Fest made the list immediately followed by The Seafood Fest and then I found The Rougarou Fest.

Never heard of a rougarou? What about it’s other name – loup garou? It’s the werewolf that prowls the swamp lands of Louisiana. According to my mother in law, unlike the traditional werewolf stories the rougarou is cursed with the affliction for a hundred days because he or she broke the rules of Lent for seven years in a row.  Another relative says that the rougarou is under the spell of the witch and can be human again by passing along the affliction.

Whatever the case, there is now a festival dedicated to the legend and I’ll be there! Like the other festivals, there will be food and music. And unique to the Rougarou Fest, storytelling about the Louisiana swamp creature.

I can’t wait!
