The Game of Seduction-Candace Shaw

by on September 4, 2012

This is so totally cool, I get to welcome our first guest and fellow author, Candace Shaw. If you haven’t read her first book, Cooking up Love, get it. It was a fab read. So without further ado, give a warm Luscious Literaries welcome to Candace.

1. What inspired you to write your first completed work?

In 2004, my husband was watching the Democratic Convention while I was on the couch reading a book as usual. I looked up to see a very handsome man who was an Illinois State Senator at that time. I was simply mesmerized by his eloquent and powerful speech and his handsome stature. I said to my husband “This man needs a book!” I continued to follow him for the next few years and even said one time “he should run for president.” Well, he did and won, but it was something about his charismatic and commanding presence on the stage that made me want to center a hero on him and during the summer of 2006 I began to write a book about an interior decorator and a politician/lawyer who was running for a US State Senate position. I did send it to Kimani, but I never heard back.  So I guess President Barack Obama inspired me to write my first completed novel. The book is titled Perfect Candidate for Love and will be out summer 2013 after I rewrite it.

2. Tell us about the first time you had a story published?  How did that feel?

My first novel was published in May 2012, titled Cooking up Love. I was overwhelmed because I decided to self publish but excited and nervous at the same time because people were going to read my imagination.

3. Was your first review favorable or critical?  What did you learn from it?

My first review was favorable. It was a five-star review on Amazon, and I was in complete tears when I read it because I didn’t know what to expect. I was scared no one would like the book. I learned I should think positive and have faith.

4. Tell us about some of the authors that have influenced you as a writer.  Why these particular authors?

Louisa May Alcott is the reason why I’m a writer. I read Little Women in 4th grade and loved the fact that the character Jo was a writer for I had just started writing stories in a notebook.  I read the rest of Alcott’s books and really enjoyed her writing style and her family oriented books and I wanted to do the same.

5. What are some of the challenges you face as a writer?

Having writer’s block or not being able to write when I want to because something happens that I don’t have any control over. Also, staying within a certain budget for marketing and promotions as well as finding the best marketing strategies that would be beneficial to me.

6. Do you have a favorite out of the books you have written?

My favorite as of now would be The Game of Seduction because I truly feel the love between the hero and the heroine. They started out as friends, and their relationship grew into more. I also felt more confident in my writing with this book because the words flowed easier from me than the first book in the series.

7. For writers just starting out:  Do you have a favorite quotation to share?

Yes.  Whenever you get discouraged with things that happen such as rejection letters, bad critiques, lack of support from family and friends or bad reviews, just remember the following:

God, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change,
Courage to change the things I can,
And wisdom to know the difference.

8. When reading a book, what tells you it’s going to be a “good story”?

If I can relate to the characters or plot as well as seeing the scenes vividly in my head.

9. Do you have any interesting things you like to do while reading said good book?

Curl up on the corner of the couch, drink a glass of white zin and munch on apple slices or spinach dip with pita chips.

Blurb for The Game of Seduction

Dr. Bria Arrington has had her heart broken by one bad boy playboy and doesn’t want to travel down that road again. However, she finds herself attracted to her best friend, self-proclaimed bachelor, Rasheed Vincent. After a passionate kiss leaves them desiring more, seducing each other is the only cure.

A retired basketball player, Rasheed is a player on and off the court. When a woman gets too close, he bounces to the next one. But the condition he’s in makes him want a permanent dose of Bria’s love, and he’s ready for the shot. She knows falling in love with Rasheed is a prescription for trouble, yet she’s willing to risk it. But can she trust him with her heart?

The Game of Seduction is the second book in the Arrington Family Series.

Excerpt

Rasheed leaned against the wall in the VIP section sipping on rum and Coke and trying hard not to stare at Bria. Her short black dress was hugging her lethal curves, and he wanted to take it off and wrap her cocoa legs around his waist while she called out his name repeatedly. He tried to pretend to flirt with the groupies passing by, but they weren’t doing anything for him. Bria had awakened a passion and lust in him that he couldn’t ever remember feeling before. Her long hair fell over her right shoulder in a sexy manner, and he imagined running his hands through it or holding onto to it as he gave it to her from behind. The night before, he couldn’t sleep. The thought that she actually needed and wanted her flames of desire extinguished, prevented him from resting peacefully and filled his mind. Images of her naked mocha-kissed body next to him invaded his brain all night, and the erection that prevailed only went away after a cold shower.

Rasheed downed the rest of his drink, sat the glass on the table, and walked over to her as she held a conversation with Raven.

“Excuse me, ladies. Bree, do you wanna go dance?”

“Sure.” Bria excused herself from Raven and walked onto the dance floor.

The DJ was playing an upbeat party mix that included Lady Ga Ga, Jay-Z, Beyonce, and Rihanna. Rasheed danced behind Bria, grinding on her to the fast beat. He was surprised she hadn’t resisted, especially when he pulled her by the hips close to him and a hard-on started to manifest, but she continued dancing, swishing her butt on him in an erotic manner as if they were naked and joined together. When Rihanna’s “Rude Boy” came on, she turned around to face him and sung the entire song as she continued her seductive dance on him.

He bent down and whispered in her ear.

“You keep doing that, you’ll find out how rude this boy is. Because trust me, baby, I’m more than big enough, but the question is, can you take it?” He gave her a slow grind so she could feel exactly how hard he was.

She looked up at him from beneath her lashes with a sexy, confident expression on her face.

“I can handle all of you.” She caressed the back of his neck, and he knew it was time to go before he pulled up her dress on the dance floor.

“Let’s get out of here,” he groaned as his erection hardened more by her confident words.

Once in the limo, Bria straddled his lap and her dress rose around her hips to reveal a pair of black lace panties. His lips sought out hers, and he kissed her slow, nibbling on her bottom lip.

“I’ve been aching to kiss you again, Bree,” he said. He pulled her tongue further into his mouth, savoring the sweetness of it and feeling himself completely losing his mind. “You have the sexiest lips that I can’t get enough of.”
